High in Howe Sound

The Approach

It isn’t easy to get there, but it’s well worth the effort. Watching the sun set and then rise, from the top of an island peak, bookends the type of rejuvenating sleep money can’t buy.

After a boat ride across the sound and a 2+ hour hike, straight up, the reward is a flat platform on which to lay atop the world. The logistics and physical exertion of this adventure pale in comparison to the views you’ll witness.

The Approach

At 7:27pm, the sun lowers itself beyond the horizon, still casting alpenglow onto the higher surrounding peaks. Soon the city and the stars will be the only glimmers of light.

The Approach

At 6:48am, the sun unveils beams onto the Western mountains. Without light overnight, the air and earth are frosty cold. All warmth is withheld by the sun at this time of year. Whether it’s the crisp air or the stunning 360 degree view, it’s breathtaking. It’s a place that finds itself uniquely wedged where the water meets the mountains, in a truly supernatural part of the world.
